Mon/Tues picks

After a rough weekend of beer, bad bets and laziness,I'll get to this properly.I had to deposit more funds in after letting someone else loose on my account so after a winning bet on Seattle Sounderslast night minus a couple of season long bets the bank is 14 points.

First pick is for tonight,Stevenage v Portsmouth.Everyone knows Portsmouth troubles on and off the pitch and werent surprised when they went down 2-0 to Coventry on the weekend. They could only name 4 subs, all youth team players but their transfer embargo should be lifted and they can bring in a couple of players.Last season this game would have been a Premership v Conference match up but with Stevenages promotion its now a Championship v League 2 game. After a late goal Stevenage managed a 2-2 draw on the weekend and with that confidence or momentum, playing in front of the cameras and maybe a sense of optimism that they can beat their opponents I reckon this game game will be wide open and am gonna have a stab at the Goals market.

Stevenage v Portsmouth Over 2.5 goals 11/10 with Bet365 3 points

Second pick is another risky enough one as its an International friendly but I reckon Italy have enough to beat Ivory Coast in Upton Park tomorrow night. After a poor World Cup showing,Cesare Prandelli has been brought in to replace Marcelo Lippi and he has already stated his intent to buikd towards Euro 2012.A completely revamped squad with only a couple of players over 30,but it includes Balotelli,Cassano and Amauri who have all been told they will start and they will want to prove a point. At the back they wont be as strong with Buffon missing and an untested back 4 bar Chiellini but I reckon they will have enough.
Ivory Coast will have to do without Didier Drogba and Sven Goran Eriksson, the latter probably not being a bad thing after the Ivorians own poor showing during the summer. They still will be able to call upon regualrs such as Eboue, the Toures,Zokora,Kalou etc and they too are looking to set upon a new venture but I think Italy have alot more to prove and should be able to do it.

Italy v Ivory Coast - Italy @ 6/5 3 points Bet 365

Last bet is a double in the Carling Cup.

QPR have had an interesting summer with plenty of arrivals and they got off to the perfect start with a 4-0 hammering of Barnsley on the weekend. With a big squad I reckon that there could be a bit of rotation for their tie against Port Vale,Gorkss and Helguson are defintely gone due to international duty and Akos Buszaky is injured. But they had quality on the bench in Leon Clarke,Gary Borrowdale and Mikele Leigertwood on the bench so even if they do change their XI I think there will still be enough quality to see of vale.

The same goes for Leeds at home to Lincoln. They will not be happy with an opening day loss but I'm sure they will put it behind them and concentrate on tomorrow nights tie. With a few new arrivals themselves and the loss of Beckford its probably fair to say that Simon Grayson is still wotking out his best formations and players.Experienced defenders,Alex Bruce,Leigh Bromby and Andy hughes all sat on the bench for the weekends loss and expect one or two of those to feature tomorrow night.
Lincoln also lost on the weekend and after a poor showing last season were they finished 20th its not looking much more rosier for them this season. With only 16 points collected on the road from a possible 69 last season I think this trip to Leeds will be again too much

Saturday's pick

The English starts back up and are sure to be as exciting as ever and one team I really liked last season was Swindon Town.A few draws at the end of the season saw them finish outside automatic promotion butwith their signings so far they look intent and not letting it happen again.Simon Ferry who was on loan at Swindon last year, the exciting David Ball on loan from my beloved Man City and the experienced David Prutton are great additions in my eyes.Despite been somewhat overshadowed by the now departed Billy Paynter,Charlie Austin certainly made a name for himself with 20 goals and Swindon will be looking to him again this season to make even more of an impact. They had a respectable home record last season with W13 D8 L2.

Brighton are no mugs and either is the man in charge Gus Poyet.Their away record last season was actually better then their home record and with their end of season push they finished comfortably mid-table.They've added experience and youth to their side but their defensive purchase of Gordon greer from Swindon is suspended as well as 12 goal Glen Murray.

Home win for me

St Pats v Drogheda

If it wasnt an uphill battle already after last weeks defeat to Bray,Drogheda make the trip to Inchicore without a host of players,4 are definitely due to suspension and a couple who are doubtful.Drogs away form is nearly identical to their home form and they have already beaten Pats twice this season but tonight will be a completely different game.

Pats have the best home form in the league this season and have performed well recently, holding Bohemians and Sporting fingal to a draw in theire last 2 games aswell as beating Dundalk 3-0 away from home. They have nearly a full squad to choose from and with Shamrock Rovers hosting Bohs on Sunday, the table toppers will look to go 3 points clear, until Sunday at least.I think they can keep a clean sheet here but again I am going to try my chance at the Asian Handicap.

St Pats -1 AH @ 1.475 v Drogheda Bet 365 5 points

First Pick

I was going to wait til tomorrow to have my first bet of the season but as a followerof the A-League last season I'm going to have a punt today.

Perth Glory finished off last season in flying form, too little too late for them but their main downfall was their away form.Apart from welllington who are from New Zealand,Perth have to travel the furthest for their away games and it showed with their stats, they lost the most amount of away games in the league. But at home they finished with stats of W8 D4 L1 F23 A8 and they will be looking to use that kind of form to build a solid base this season.

North Queensland Fury lost their "best" player in Robbie Fowler to,ironically Perth Glory. They havent been able to replace him and it looks like they could struggle this season. They have financial troubles and lost most of their better performers from last season. On the road last year they conceded the most amount of goals last year in 28 and picked up 11 from 42 points.

Despite the fact Perth have never beaten the Fury,I'm still going to side with them here and gonna try them on the Asian Handicap.

New Season

Well after the World Cup,I know I as much as the next punter have been waiting eagerly for the start of the European Leagues especially the English.Last season betting wise wasnt too bad,I didnt lose too much it was more for interest really but I did make a few nice withdrawals for my standards and will look to be doing the same this year.I usually try to keep my selections down to singles or doubles and will have a handful of bets per week especially if there is a full program.I tend to back home teams with a good record or playing teams with a bad away record but of course I wont pigeon hole myself into to doing this all the time.

Accounts

At the minute I have accounts with Paddy Power,Bet365,Boylesports,Betfair and Betpack and I will look to use all of these throughout the season to get the best odds I can on my selections  and more then likely I will open a couple more to capitalise on the sign up bonuses.

I should have my first selection up tomorrow,Friday at the latest!
